Overwhelmed Already

I don't know about you guys, but I am feeling a little overwhelmed.  I have so much information to give you, skills I want to teach you, we have activities to start planning and its only the third week of school.

There is nothing wrong with feeling overwhelmed.  What is important is that you acknowledge the feeling and then ask for help.  That is what is great about working with a team.

So, this next week coming up I need help getting a few things organized.  Please let me know if you can help.

How are YOU feeling?  Excited, Overwhelmed, Confused, Lost, Empowered, Ambitious.  It is perfectly normal to have any of these feelings.  Its the beginning of the school year, it may be a new school for some, and you are enrolled in a high demanding class.

What is making you feel this way?  Do you need help or can you offer some support?

Please post by Thursday at midnight.  Then after Thursday come back and read everyone's comments.  See if there is anything you can do to help your classmates.  Please post how you would like to help.  Post should be made by Sunday at midnight.

  1. I am very nervous and excited at the same time. I'm nervous about how our events will turn out, how much money we are able to raise, etc. I really hope we have very successful events and that we raise a loy of money. All we can do is hope for the best! Also, I am very nervous about meeting our deadlines, responsibility, and such. I really hope that everybody will be able to accomplish these goals in this class. Aside from that, I am very excited to work with my classmates. I am looking forward to a great year! I hope by the end of the year, everybody will have important Leadership traits. Since I was enrolled in Leadership class last year, I am always willing to help others out. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

  2. I can help out with organizing. Just tell me the time, and I'll be there. I'm feeling very excited to start a brand new school year with a different elective from last year & I'm ready for anything that comes my way. I do feel a teeny tiny bit nervous because I hope that I can represent our school without being shy and meet every single requirement to be a good leader. I hope that everyone, including me, can be responsible with planning events and et cetera. I can offer support for anyone who feels the same way that I do because I'll understand EXACTLY what they're feeling. I will be aware of their emotions because I am experiencing the same things inside. I really do hope that we have a successful school year & make it a year to remember. I am willing to give my time to my classmates if they ever need support.

  3. I think that I am feeling a little bit of all the emotions above at the same time: excited, overwhelmed, confused, lost, empowered, and ambitious.

I'm extremely excited that I'm in Leadership because then I'll get to try something new and have new responsibilities as well as meet new people.

I'm a little overwhelmed with all my new responsibilities, but at the same time I like my new jobs as they make me feel like I'm contributing to the school and/or the Leadership class.

I'm kind of confused about what I have to do to make the Fundraising committee the best it can be. I mean, I know about the beef jerky and Halloween grams, but that's pretty much it.

I feel empowered for the same reasons that I feel overwhelmed sometimes.

I know I am ambitious because I want to try to do everything as perfectly as I can, but I know that's impossible because it's my first time in leadership, and I will make mistakes. But at the same time, I am trying to learn as much as I can so I can accomplish all that I want to for everyone.

On a side note: I love the picture.

I hope that I will be able to offer all the help I can and that I can get a little help in return. If anyone is feeling like they don't know what's going on, I hope I can be there for them because I feel that way too. I hope we all have a great year together!

  4. I am feeling really good about this school year. I think it's going to be one of those years that's just going to make every day worth it. I am feeling really excited about all the events and how this year will differ from last year. I am also a little neverous about how everything is going to turn out like all the posters and the display case and all the events. However I get over that once I realize that it isn't just one person planning, it's a whole group of people who want to do their best at what they are doing. And since I will have time from when I am not making posters and when I finsh the display case, I can help out with the other groups and do what they need me to do. So I am a little anxious about the rest of the year, but I know we will be okay because everyone will be there.

  5. I am very nervous and excited. I can be shy so i'm nervous to have to suddenly speak up. Excited, because i'm looking forward to being in leadership & honing my leadership skills. This is my first year in leadership, but my second year at Alvarado. So, if you ever need help, just ask me. (:

  6. I can help with getting organized. I'm feeling excited and ambitious, with all the new leadership students and the year of planning and making spirit days and spirit weeks. I also feel overwhelmed and lost at times because I didn't know being a spirit commissioner came with so much responsibilities. As an example from Friday, I was overwhelmed with all the chaos going on, and lost with how I should feel about the chaos, the work, and the fun times. Help would be good, but I want to challenge myself to see how much I, myself can do. I can always give support to people who need it.

  7. I am feeling very excited for this second year at Alvarado and I want to make this year a memorable year for me to remember when I grow up. I am also looking forward to the events that we will do this year. I am feeling nervous about how our events will turn out, will the seventh and eight graders enjoy their year at Alvarado, or if we will raise enough money, etc. So if you need any help, and I can help you, feel free to ask me. [:

  9. I am feeling very, very excited. I LOVE being in all my classes so far and hope everyone else has a good time too! Even though I'm so excited I might eplode, I am also nervous. I worry about my grades and if they will be affected because I spend too much time on leadership stuff. Another thing is, I don't know if people will like our ideas and events. However, being in leadership is a blast and I know I will try my best to make everyone happy. It makes me really happy too that our work can make school more exciting for other students. So, if anyone needs help, I will be more than happy to help! :)

  10. I feel extremely excited. From the past two weeks, I can already tell that we have a great group of students. We all have special talents and many new ideas coming up. However, I believe everything is making me nervous. From the math homework every night, to the events that we stress out about each week, I'm starting to crack. On the bright side, everything should start becoming easier once my brain goes back on track. Lastly, I'm very proud of the year's new spirited students. That is something new that we should have done in the years before. Overall, I'm filled with anticipation and can't wait for an excited 8th grade year!

  11. I am extremely excited to plan the events of this year. I am also nervous about our events being successful and ASB earning enough money. This year is one that I want to make memorable so I'm determined to make it great. At this point, I am also feeling a little overwhelmed because the time do do inventory and order more supplies has come. However, I will be more than happy to help anyone who needs it, so just talk to me! :)

  12. I feel very excited and nervous. I like all my classes and teachers so far and
I am 100% sure this year will be an exciting year. I also feel nervous because I will wonder if the students in the school had fun with the activities. I also get nervous with my grades because it may be affected when we do any leadership activity after school. However, I feel super excited for this year since now I'm a 8th grader. :)

  14. I feel very nervous and stressful. Since this is my first year at Alvarado, i'm new to a lot of things. Such as the changing schedule and classes. At times, it's hard to stay organized and on time. Another thing that I stress out about is the teachers' different teaching styles. Though, i'm still excited about my teachers and the school year. I think it's going to be a great school year and i'm excited about the challenge.[:))

  15. I'm very excited about being in leadership this school year because it's gonna help me gain more leadership skils and be more outgoing with others. It's also be very exciting to be planning school activities and events for our fellow students to enjoy. But i'm also feeling a lot of stress right now because i'm trying very hard to get straight A's this school year and not falling behind because my main goal this year is to get good grades and to be in honors so, it's very hard for me right now but i'll try my best to be helpful more. :]

  17. I feel very excited for the new school year. I feel that middle school is more difficult than elementary, but I think I can handle most of the work the teachers give me. I'm not that nervous, because I know we are going to plan awesome leadership activities together. I'm not really scared of speaking up in front of large crowds, because I have done it many times in the past. The only thing that I believe I'm anxious about is if I can step up and become a better leader. Sometimes I can be shy and not willing to share my ideas, rather being a
listener to other people and what they have to say. But this year, I want to be that person that everybody looks up to. I want to be that person they call when they don't know what to do. This is what I hope to accomplish for myself this year. Other than that, I hope that we can have a memorable school year.

  18. I am feeling really excited about the new school year. I really want to get the chance to work with everyone from being in class and just discussing something to decorating and making an event the best we could :) But I'm pretty nervous and anxious on whats going to happen next and what will happen when an event comes, will everyone collapse and play around or will the even be successful. I think I can help organize! :D

  19. I feel very excited and ambitious for the new school year. I really hope we'll make this year a great year, together as a class! I do feel a little nervous and overwhelmed, however, due to the upcoming tasks I have at hand in Leadership and in the overall school work. I am feeling a little nervous because this year, I'm working with a different group of people, so I have to get used to new people. But I do sincerely hope that as the year progresses, I will adapt to new people and learn to be more open to new people. :)

  20. I am very excited about this school year because it is my last year at Alvarado and I want to make it incomparable to my other school years. I'm also excited to get to know everyone in the class and have fun. Although, I am also nervous and anxious because of all the weight put on our shoulders. I want to make this school year the best the students ever had.

  21. I feel very excited and nervous at the same time. I am excited that I finally have a taste of middle school. So far, Alvarado has had the best classes i have ever been in. Most of the teachers are very straightforward and strict about what they want us to do but always add a touch of humor into their lessons, a touch I, as a student, particularly like. I am feeling a little bit nervous for the interview however. The thought of it terrifies me even more than the speech. But if i can get past that, I think this school year can be my most memorable one.

  22. I am extremely excited this year but also a bit nervous! I feel this years events will be super fun and successful! I am also nervous because of the deadlines, ordering all the supplies correctly, and especially project write ups! Other than that I can not wait to see the outcome of our first big event! I am also always available to help whoever, when ever and don't be afraid to approach me, I don't bite! Haha I know we will have a fantastic memorable year because of all the new members that have joined leadership. I hope everyone has fun and doesn't stress out to much! ;D

  23. Im really excited about this year and surprisingly not that nervous. I wanted to make school fun by joining leadership and be more involved into our school and help the students have fun. At this time, im a little bit confused but im pretty sure i'll start to understand as we get more into everything. I have a feeling that soon we will all feel a little bit overwhelmed by all the planning and organizing and events and such but im sure we'll all get through it together. Im very excited to be in leadership this year because im anxious to get to know the people in our class more and i like to be in a team and to work together. It just makes me feel like im apart of something and helping.

  24. I feel very nervous and excited about this whole year. Being a 7th grader and all I'm just trying to take in everything thats happening it's all coming so fast! But I love being in leadership it's something I've never experienced before and so far I'm super excited to get on with the year.

  25. I'm really excited about being an 8th grader this year. I hope my last year at Alvarado can be a very memorable and fun. I'm also really excited about being in leadership this year. Although sometimes I feel a bit lost, once things are explained, it makes it all more fun. I also hope that I can accomplish all the tasks I'm assigned. I want to make this year as enjoyable as possible for everyone. I hope this year I can have a blast, and just have fun.

  26. I have to admit middle school is more challenging that elementary school. I have a lot of homework and I'm always busy doing something. I was very nervous at the beginning of the year because I had to learn to get around Alvarado. I'm feeling a lot better these days because I'm finally getting used to the routine. I appreciate having the other students in leadership because they are helping me come out of my shell. The other day people said to me, "oh, you do talk!!" I hope that this year will be very exciting and I can't wait to start planning events. And who knows maybe one day Mrs. Lucero might tell me to stop talking! :)

  27. I am very excited for this school year and to be in Leadership. I do get frustrated because I'm still trying to get used to Alvarado, but I believe that I will get over it soon. Junior high is a big step from elementary, so I just hope to have a great school year and meet more people so I bcan become less shy.. (;

  28. Just to let some people know...

I used to be in these committees last year: Fundraising, Publicity, and Staff & Student. If anybody in these committees have any questions, feel free to ask me. Any other questions regarding the school, feel free to ask me too. :)

  29. I am excited about this school year ,because is a new start. Even though I'm not in honors I'm still at the top of the class. I hope this year can be fun for everyone.

  30. @Crystal,

Since you're pretty confused about what to do in Fundraising, I hope I can help you out, because I was in Fundraising last year, too.

About the class fundraiser, that fundraiser is to help the class raise more money for events. About half or 3/4 of the money goes to ASB. The other half or 1/4 goes to your fee to Leadership/ASB. By selling more items, you can help reduce the cost for your fee.

What you sell at the class fundraiser is usually beef jerky or Smencils. Of course, you can do something else, but I'm saying those are usually what we sell. Beef jerky is usually sold for about a dollar each, and so are Smencils (I think).

For the school wide fundraiser, we sell items in the student store and help the school raise more money. Usually, we sell grams for the month or holiday you think students will celebrate (ex: Halloween grams, Christmas grams, Valentine's grams, etc.) For these grams, you order supplies and construct the grams with your committee. The grams are sold in the Student Store during nutrition.

I hope I helped to clear your confusion. If I didn't, you can personally ask me for help, or ask around for other people who was in Fundraising last year.

    -Maggie

  31. Does anyone have any questions? I don't really have a lot of experience being in the Leadership class, but I'm still an eighth grader.
